This project is inspired by the exhibition Pushing Boundaries: Portraits by Robert Weingarten, on view July 2-October 14 at the Smithsonian’s International Gallery, Ripley Center on the National Mall.







Celia Cruz is the embodiment of an american. America was built on the back bones of immigrants, Fleeding tyranny in Cuba she made this country her home and contributed immensely to this country's cultural landscape. She was not only a singer but a woman who founded the celia cruz foundation, a non profit organization which helps the fight against cancer and grants financial aid to low income students. The only joke here is the last post.

I have nothing against Celia Cruz, but she's not even an American. Most Americans probably don't even know who she was. She was a singer who did not make the same mark on the nation as the other nominees. Is this a joke?
