My family almost always celebrates Chinese New Year on the day before the Superbowl (we joke that the NFL works on a Lunar Calendar as well).
Our observation of the holiday revolves almost entirely around food! Not only is EATING an important part of the holiday, but we have a great time cooking together. We make my grandma's dumpling recipes and find ourselves fascinated by how she was able to make them so quickly when we're so clumsy at it. And this year my (Caucasian) boyfriend even helped--I won't say all his dumplings were "pretty," but they still tasted great.
