A big thank you to the Smithsonian (Joann Stevens and Dwight Blocker Bowers)for digging through the archives and create this beautiful tribute of one of the greatest vocalists in the history of jazz. Lena Horne will be greatly missed but her memory lives on, also through the images and sounds of your Collections. Looking forward to more blogs of this kind!

I am pleased about this as modern music of any flavor just would not be the same without the greats, of which she was one.

These photographs are wonderful! Thanks for sharing!

What a wonderful post. I miss the good old days of music when things were right, in my opinion at least. This era is one of my favorites and get transported back to another world, one which I did not know, but wish I did. I get to live vicariously through these blog posts. Thank you.

Mrs. Horne will forever be remembered as a leader who stood for the civil rights of black Americans. She will be dearly missed.
