I recently watched Ken Burn's documentaries "The Civil War" and "Thomas Jefferson". In the latter, George Will called Lincoln the greatest student of Thomas Jefferson. Amazing to think of how some of the greatest tests of freedom, democracy, and union fell to Lincoln and his generation to address.
