All atwitter

The museum is buzzing with anticipation for our reopening on November 21, and here in the new media office we’re getting ready to cover all of the special happenings for your reading, listening, and viewing pleasure. Here’s a quick guide to tuning in and adding your own voice to the mix.

On Wednesday, the museum will dedicate the new Star-Spangled Banner Gallery. This special ceremony (10-11AM EST) will include remarks by both President and Mrs. Bush and a naturalization ceremony welcoming new citizens of the United States. Interested in a play-by-play as the ceremony unfolds? Follow us on Twitter for the latest. Want to watch the ceremony as it happens? We’ll be webcasting it live. (You can also watch an archived version at your leisure).

On Friday morning, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will mark the beginning of a three-day public festival celebrating our reopening. We’ll be twittering as General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret) reads the Gettysburg Address and a procession of historical characters brings history back to the museum. If you’re planning a visit, make sure to add photos of your trip to our new Flickr group. And, as always, your feedback is welcome here on our blog. Simply add your comment to the fray!

Is the ribbon cutting ceremony inside or outside? How long is it? It will make a big difference as to whether I bring my preschooler.

Thanks for your interest in the ribbon-cutting ceremony that will open the doors to American History, Arlington Mom! The hospitality tents, costumed characters, and ceremonial music will start the ceremony at 8:30 a.m. and conclude with the ribbon cutting at 9:55 a.m. It WILL be outside, so if you do come, please dress warmly. We look forward to your visit whenever you can come.
